JOB DETAILS:

Communications Specialist

$21.00 per hour full-time


General Description:

A. The Client manages multiple Security Control Centers that operate twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week. Security Control Centers provide initial incident response, information and serve as the communications hub for the Security Operations Team.  

B. The Security Control Centers support Security by performing the following tasks:

1. Monitor access control, fire, building management systems and related alarms.

2. Respond to all emergency and non-emergency telephone calls received at the Incident Management Center by taking immediate action or directing calls to the appropriate Security Team members for prompt and effective resolution.

3. Perform emergency response notifications and escalations.  

4. Perform communications dispatch and radio net control by coordinating multiple two-way radio and telephone communications.

5. Monitor multiple closed circuit television systems.

C. The Security Control Center Communications Specialist reports to the Security Control Center Senior Supervisor.

D. The Security Control Center Communications Specialist will be assigned to a specific Security Control Center with limited rotation to other locations when deemed appropriate by the Client.

 

II. Professional Qualifications   At minimum the incumbent shall:

A. Be proficient in the use of computer and telecommunications equipment to include significant expertise in Windows based environments as well as security alarm systems software.  

B. Have advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook.

C. Possess a two year degree or at minimum two years of documented college credits in Communications, English, Emergency Management, Security, Law Enforcement or similar academic discipline (a four year degree is preferred) in combination with one or more of the following:

1.Two years full-time military police experience or experience in an elite military unit in a command, tactical operations center or similar environment.

2. Graduate of an accredited law enforcement/criminal justice academy with at least two years full-time law enforcement experience in a command, tactical operations center or similar environment

3. Provide evidence, satisfactory to the client, of experience in a similar role and responsibility in a like communications/monitoring environment.

D. Possess four years of documented experience as a Communications Specialist in a call center, control center, command center, security communications center, tactical operations center or similar environment.

E. Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

III.Duties   The Security Command Center Communications Specialist provides around the clock communications dispatch which includes operation of radio consoles and related equipment including the following tasks:

A. Respond to all emergency and non-emergency telephone calls received by the Security Command Center and delegate courses of action for such calls.

B. Assess, prioritize and perform emergency response notification and escalation based on potential risk to the Client's operations and/or staff by assigning and coordinating the appropriate Security Operations personnel.

C. Manage routine radio communications of the Security Operations staff.

D. Be proficient in all emergency response, fire, life safety, and access control polices, procedures, plans, and practices.

E. Monitor and operate closed circuit television systems.

F. Operate an enterprise wide, complex communications system which integrates radio and Voice Over IP (VoIP) transmissions.

G. Monitor Security Control Center systems for functionality and quality performance status.

H. Conduct basic system troubleshooting of Security Control Center systems and, if possible, resolve such problems before escalating them to the Client's management.

I. Facilitate communications during incidents and emergencies which include coordinating multiple two-way radio and telephone communications.

J. Provide timely, accurate and complete information to the Client's internal personnel and outside response agencies (police, fire, EMS , etc.).

 

IV.Abilities -  The Security Control Center Communications Specialist must possess the ability to:

E. Speak clearly and distinctly over a telephone or radio system so instructions and questions may be fully understood and addressed during emergency and stressful situations.

H. Provide an exemplary level of service that exceeds the Client's expectations on a consistent basis.

I. Promote teamwork and achieve organizational goals with minimal supervision and oversight.
