Paralegal Degree Programs

Paralegals assist lawyers with a variety of tasks. Paralegals with little or no experience are often given less demanding tasks, while experienced paralegals are often tasked with giving legal advice and/or gathering information for a case. Paralegal degree programs usually last two years and result in an associate's degree. The National Association of Legal Assistants provides certification in the paralegal field. There are currently about 1,000 paralegal schools that offer formal paralegal courses.

With an employment growth rate of 22 percent until the year 2016, paralegal jobs are expected to grow faster than the national average according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.) Job prospects are also expected to be favorable according to the BLS. The median salary, as reported by the BLS, is $43,040 nationally.
